Surfing Is Like Life

You can sit on your board and wait for the perfect wave. Once you see it coming, you turn around and start paddling as hard as you can. When it reaches you, you can either put all your strength into catching the wave or you can give up and lose all the glory of riding it. Let’s say you take the wave. You are now on the wave and you are having the best time ever. You can feel the wind in your hair and you are rushed with a feeling a pure happiness. Now it doesn’t matter if you wipeout. You can get right back on your board and paddle out to catch another wave because now you know that you can do it…you caught the wave! So next time you are having a hard time, if you wipeout, it’s ok, just get right back on board because you might just have the ride of your life!

Monster Poem

Its robust body thrust itself through the air,
slicing away at the air friction like it was butter.
 Trillions of air molecules
 fled in hope
of finding safety from the monstrosity.
They whizzed
and swerved,
 as if eluding a speeding bullet.
 The phenomenon
was so gargantuan
 that it had eventually acquired an orbit of its own.
 Meanwhile, quadrillions of innocent, microscopic mixtures of nitrogen, oxygen, and minute amounts of other gases
 were trapped
inside its abysmal, nebulous insides.
Their unheard screams sounded like a nauseating alarm.
 Miles below it, humans
of the New Jersey variety
had their eyes glued to the electrifying colors of the monster.
Jazz berry jam red and Outrageous orange;
 Laser Lemon Yellow and Caribbean Green;
Pacific Blue and Chalk White.
The people looked like Barbies with over-easy eggs for eyes.
It was like
 a deadly rainbow had wrapped
 itself around into a giant sphere.
To all the flabbergasted onlookers
underneath the behemoth,
 the mere seconds it was airborne seemed to take hours.
Their wide open mouths dried
up like a puddle in the blistering heat.
Their eyelids were clasped
together like trap doors;
open just enough to spy on the great monster.
The beach ball towered over the earth
like a king, a sorcerer, a god.

Flocking of the birds...

People are like birds. The group together, fly, parade through the sky in groups. Massive groups with one sole purpose, one brain, one motive that affects the rest of the clan. And then there is one outsider; one who chirps differently, or flies a different wing pattern. They create new arcs and circles and angles through the air. They take a step outside of the whirling smudge of feathers; breathe new air. The rest of the flock notices an unbalance. They observe a being like their own setting a new path, a path they follow. They enveloped the lone one in their plumage in large chatter. And then they descry something on the horizon. Something incomparable to the innovator and its new found path had caught their eye so they encompass it in a sea of speed and pursuit. The loner is, again, left alone to carry on with life in the usual manner. They accept the popularity and appreciation when it comes and even grow to like it. But in the end, they are left alone to fly as the please and excel in life, purely content. They are an individual at heart and will always remain so. Let us learn from our friends. We do not have to follow the beaten path in order to live up to our life goals. Take risks, seek challenges, and do not be afraid of failure.
